Getting too personal?

By ways of an introduction, I pose this question; should company blogs be purely professional or should they be peppered with a personal touch?

There has been much debate about business blogging and how much personal information should appear on a company blog. Businesses work hard to be portrayed as professional, credible and authoritative; reputation and image is king! Ok, I would say that working for a PR & marketing agency... But, this aside, the changing face of communication and fevered zest for social media, is changing the ways companies communicate with their customers; whether they like it or not.

People are using new platforms, new technologies, creating new dialogues, asking different questions; no longer, it seems, is it enough to do what we’ve always done.

I have been schooled to keep it corporate, but across the last couple of years my views have changed.

Customers want to get under the skin of your company. They want to know what challenges you face, how you do things, what you actually think - they’ve already read your company brochure, so what more can you offer?

Don’t worry; this entry does not signal the start of a barrage of mundane posts from the Press Ahead team (I hope), but it does give me the assurance to tell you that when I leave the office on an evening I am quite partial to making butterflies. Here’s one I made earlier....

Check out my personal blog if you want to know more.
